Ege Tokatlı

Guitar

Ege Tokatlı was born in İzmir in 1996. He began studying guitar at the age of ten. In 2007, he participated as an active performer in the İnönü University International Golden Apricot Guitar Festival. In 2009, he was accepted into the High School Division of the Piano Department, Guitar Art Program at Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory, where he became a student of Lecturer Kadircan Özdemir. In 2010, he skipped a grade and advanced from the first year to the third year of high school. In 2012, he passed the undergraduate entrance exam of the same conservatory and continued his studies in the same department.

In 2011, he participated actively in the International Koblenz Guitar Festival in Germany. In 2012, he was selected as an active participant in the masterclass of the world-renowned guitarist Pepe Romero and continued his studies with the maestro thereafter. That same year, he also participated as an active performer in the 21st International Iserlohn Guitar Symposium in Germany. In 2014, he took part in the Istanbul Guitar Festival. In 2015, he once again participated actively in the Koblenz Guitar Festival.

Throughout his career, he has been an active performer in masterclasses with many internationally acclaimed guitarists such as Costas Cotsiolis, Duo Combo, Erdem Sökmen, Fabio Zanon, Robert Brightmore, Sonja Prunnbauer, Gerald Garcia, Luciano Pompilio, Matthew Cochran, Alexander Ramirez, Sabrina Vlaskalic, Massimo delle Cese, Susanna Hilker, and Pepe Romero.

During his education, Ege Tokatlı gave numerous solo and chamber music concerts. In 2011, he performed as a soloist with a chamber ensemble in Vivaldi’s Concerto in D Major for Guitar. He performed the same concerto again as a soloist with the Dokuz Eylül Symphony Orchestra (DESO) in 2016. That same year, he also performed Roland Dyens’ Tango en Skai in an orchestral arrangement with the school orchestra. In June 2016, he graduated from the Guitar Art Program of the Piano Department at Dokuz Eylül University State Conservatory as a student of Lecturer Kadircan Özdemir.

In 2018, he began his master’s degree in the Guitar Department of the Music Faculty at Istanbul University State Conservatory under the supervision of Artist Lecturer Erdem Sökmen. In 2020, he was accepted into the “Music Production and Arrangement Workshop” held under the “Onno Tunç Memorial Days” organized by ITU-MIAM, where he worked with Ozan Bayraşa.

Having given many recitals both as a soloist and with chamber ensembles, Ege Tokatlı passed the proficiency in art (doctoral) examination in 2021 at Istanbul University State Conservatory in the Classical Guitar Department of the Music Faculty. He is currently continuing his doctoral studies with Artist Lecturer Erdem Sökmen.
